Somaliland Climate Change Conference

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change held a conference on climate change. The conference was attended and official opened by the vice president of the Republic of Somaliland, members of the cabinet, members of the Swedish House of Representatives, international organizations, academics, and local stakeholders. The Vice President praised the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change for its efforts in protecting the environment and raising awareness of climate change.

The officials who spoke were as follows:

First, the Director General of the Ministry of Environment and Climate, Muhamed Abilahi Duale, gave a brief introduction to the conference and said, “This conference on Climate change will last two days and will discuss how to deal with the challenge of climate change and how Somaliland can get financial support from the world without getting the recognition it deserves.

Samira Hassan, the country director of UNDP, stated the problem of climate change in Somaliland and said, “Climate change has led to recurring droughts, and UNDP’s agenda is to combat the problem of climate change.”

Muhamed H. Adam, Minister of the Ministry of Religion and Endowment, congratulated the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change for their efforts to protect the environment and raise awareness of climate change.

Raabi Abdi Muhamed, Minister of the Ministry of Fisheries and Coastal Development, has warned of the threat of climate change and said, “Climate change is a threat to human existence, and the world holds conferences to discuss the threat of climate change. This conference is one of those conferences that take place around the world and discuss the effects of climate change.”

The country director of Action Aid, Muhamed Sillah, has stated the role of international organizations in Somaliland in combating climate change and said, “As international organizations operating in Somaliland, we are committing our efforts to finding solutions to the problems caused by climate change.”

Finally, the Minister of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Shukri H. Ismail Bandare, has made her statement at the national climate change conference and said, “Cop 28, the United Nations Climate Change Conference will be held in Dubai and will be attended by 70,000. We must be prepared and act on the issues that will emerge in order to find a solution to the problem of climate change.”
